Design

This project aims to establish a civil aviation education center in the international airport of Phnom Penh (Cambodia). Current project was commenced as an aid project of transport infrastructure sector in cooperation strategy of two countries in order to secure human resource development and institutional capacity for the efficient operation of the civil aviation field in the recipient country.
The design motifs were a sacred space "Courtyard of Cambodian Temple" and open communication space "Korean Courtyard" that based on rational function corresponding to the local environment considering the high temperature and humidity of the country during the year. It is a space where people and nature co-exist together, and it was harmoniously designed that efficiently utilizes natural ventilation by controlling the shade and microclimate in the building. All the rooms have natural ventilation and indirect lighting through the open corridor, and the Grand Stair in the courtyard can be used as a resting place with a wide view of the pond. Such a nature-friendly education center is currently in good operation and has received good reviews from the recipient country and KOICA.
